As the Tide Swallowed Our Shoes

As the Tide Swallowed Our Shoes

A composition of the like-ness of my mother on the beach in Acadia Maine; painted for my parent's 30th anniversary. We were collecting bits of sea glass and lobster traps as the tide rolled over the rocks.

The painting is based on a series of photos that I took while we were on family vacation, one of the rare times we were together for nearly a week as a whole family since our college years began. Combining the feel of various locations into one cohesive visual narrative; I pull inspiration from different tidal pools, rock-jetties, and mountain scenery I found around the National Park.

Just as Mom never took this pose, this idlic landscape doesn't truly exist; but the sense invoked captures my truth of that trip. Somewhere between landscape concept, and still-life, detailing that ephemeral Acadian summer.
